The Low Down on Camping Supplies

We have friends that are about to venture off on a year long RV quest with their family. Sorta jealous. Ok, really jealous. But super happy and excited for them. They are new to camping so they inspired me to write this post. Ok, newbies. We hope this helps you get ready for the open road ahead.

We’ve included some affiliate amazon links to the products we really believe in and are happy to recommend them to friends and family.

Camping Necessities
So the camp superstore is filled with so many fun things. It’s super easy to spend a lot of cash on items that seem like a great idea. Well, we have tested and tried many of these fancy items over the years. Here are a few of our favs and why we love them.

Collapsible Trash Can Liner
We have tried many versions of this. The plastic one, fancy metal one, and let’s not forget the ol’ tie to a tree to name a few. They all were terrible. Then we met this guy Stansport Collapsible Campsite Carry-All Trash Can, Green . It is made of a weather-resistant tarp material like a tent and collapses down to a couple inches so it saves on space. Super sturdy and repels dirt. Plus, it takes the big, heavy 30-gallon trash bags. Love!

The Collapsible Drying Rack
Again, we have tried many of these. This one is our favorite. It collapses down to a couple inches but is surprisingly strong and sturdy. AmazonBasics Foldable Drying Rack – White

Lightweight Plastic Rug
Note that if an outdoor rug is heavy in the store don’t buy it! Once you add a few pounds of sand, dirt and sea shells, no one is going to help you shake it out. The lighter, the better. We have had this one, Rv Mat Patio Rug Chevron Pattern 9×12 Tan/Charcoal for many years and it’s just perfect. Large, lightweight, and folds ups nicely and is easy to broom sweep. I’d say it’s weather resistant too.

Camp Chairs
Buy the most expensive you can afford. Price makes a difference with camp chairs. The cheaper they are the more likely they are to break. And once they break there is no fixing it. We like the large seat so we can sit comfy with our 4-year-old and dog on our laps. Plus, the cup holders are large enough for our Nalgene (more on this coming up) and a beer with a big coozy. This isn’t our exact chair but very similar. It appears they don’t make our current ones any longer so this will be the next one we will buy. Nalgene Water Bottles
This water bottle is great. I love it so much I use one at work. It is leak resistant, crack resistant, and smell resistant. This thing is nearly indestructible! It has a handy ml and oz measurement on the side so you can use it to cook with. You can also put nearly boiling water in it toss it in your sleeping bag on those chilly nights. (I’ve heard you can put boiling water in it but I haven’t tried) Plus, it’s so much better for the environment to refill a water bottle then to waste disposable plastic bottles. Nalgene Solo Tritan Wide-Mouth Water Bottle 48 oz

Foam Soap
I know this seems odd. Soap is soap, right? Not when your camping with a limited water supply. It takes three times as much water to fully rinse the regular soap from your hands and dishes. Trust me, you’ll be glad you don’t have to dump the gray water nearly as much! Dawn Platinum Dishwashing Foam, Fresh Rapids, 10.1 Ounce

Broom, Mop & Vacuum
We really like the collapsible broom Camco 43623 Adjustable Broom and Dustpan. It’s easy to store plus our little one likes that it can be her size so she can help. I also really like this mop Mr. Clean 446684 Microfiber Wet / Dry Mop, the cloth head comes with a refill Mr. Clean Wet Dry Mop Refill 100% Microfiber 3 Pack and is really easy to pull off to wring out. I like having a backup so I can wash the dirty one while still having a clean backup. I wish the handle collapsed down but I guess it wins in all the other categories. We recently purchased the Black and Decker cordless vacuum. It’s pretty mighty when it has a full charge. The jury is still out on how long it will last but it was a good price point so if we needed to replace it in a year or so I’d be ok with that. It has many heads for those hard to reach areas and is easy to clean out. Stanley Black & Decker FHV1200W Cordless Mini Canister Vac
